Learn My Travel-like-a-Local Secrets

...Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on,
deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.
Miriam Beard

During twenty-five years of traveling around the world, I have learned that traveling-like-a-local is the best way to see the world inexpensively, safely, comfortably, and purposefully. Yet after years of scouring bookstores, taking travel seminars, and surfing websites, I have never found anywhere that reveals the secrets I have learned. So I decided to develop the following classes for my "Travel like a Local" seminar series:

A Whole New Way to Travel: Exchanging, Volunteering, Learning Vacations, and other Adventures Abroad

Want to travel for next to nothing while getting immersed into the heart and soul of a new country? Tired of seeing the world through bus or cruise ship windows? If so, attend this class and discover dozens of extremely low-cost alternatives to the beaten travel path, including:

  • Studying languages, surfing, cooking, dancing, ecology, herbal medicine, history, or archaeology for as little as $10/day.
  • Volunteering to put your skills and passions to work.
  • Setting up and finding great home exchanges.
  • Staying for free, or next to nothing, in a room in someone's home.

  • Earn a living outside of the USA (including teaching English, freelance journalism, and running a business abroad).
  • Use your home and investments to fund your adventure.
