Press Release
Quit Your Job; See the World
Many people dream of quitting their jobs and seeing the world; few, do it.
Paul Heller is one of those rare people who is following this dream. In April, Heller quit a fifteen year career in public administration to see the world.
What?s more, he is on a one man mission to help you join him in opting out of the rat race. Heller notes, ?It is easy to pursue your dream to see the world. Following a few simple tips, almost anyone can travel around the globe for less than $20,000 a year. Some people by taking short term jobs, renting their homes, and other creative money stretching ideas, actually come home with more cash than when they left.?
Heller continues, ?I?m always amazed how many people assume that travel is a luxury for the rich. I have met many seniors and youth who actually travel around the world because it is cheaper than staying at home.?
Heller notes, ?The main reason people don?t travel as much as they?d like is poor information. One of the biggest myths among people my age (Paul is 39 years old) is that the only way to travel the world cheaply is to don a backpack and join hordes of youth traveling between crowded hostels and restaurants listed in guidebook like Let?s Go. Yet, there are a lot of low-cost, safe, and meaningful alternatives including staying in other people?s homes, studying at language and cultural institutes abroad, and volunteering your way around the world.?
Heller offers as an example a trip he recently arranged through a travel agency in Buenos Aires to study Spanish and tango, eat gourmet meals, and rent a spacious room in one of Buenos Aires?s most fashionable neighborhoods. The trip cost him less than $1500 for a whole month including airfare and, Heller notes, allowed him to ?develop a close friendship with a wonderful family and get a real sense of what life is like for the typical Portenyo (resident of Buenos Aires). Ultimately, travel is one of the most powerful ways we can break down boundaries between people. That?s why, I want to help others travel more.?
Paul Heller is one of America?s foremost experts on traveling more safely, economically, and enjoyably. He is also author of the upcoming book?Travel Travel like a Local: A Whole New Way to See the World Safely, Inexpensively, Comfortably, Joyfully, and Purposefully and President of the Big Blue Marble, a travel seminar and publications business.
